Photo of Ellen Sue MesburThe School of Social Work, Renison University College, University of Waterloo offers a unique post-BA Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) degree through full-time or part-time studies. The program provides students with a first-level professional Social Work degree.

We have distinguished ourselves through strong academics as well as a skills-oriented approach to social work practice. Our goal is to prepare students through theory and practice opportunities to enable them to enhance the quality of life for their clients and promote human rights and social justice in the larger community.


Renison social work graduates are employed in every province in Canada and internationally. BSW graduates work in a variety of fields of practice, including Addictions, Children and Family Services, Community-based programs, Community Development, Gerontology, Mental Health, Social Planning, Social Policy, Vocational Assistance and Youth Programs.

The School of Social Work faculty are nationally and internationally known for their teaching, scholarship, contributions to the field of study and active participation. They are focused on agency-based social work practice, student education, and knowledge-building through research.

The BSW program is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education . Graduates are eligible for membership in the Ontario Association of Social Workers and the Canadian Association of Social Workers, and are eligible to apply for certification to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers . The School is an Institutional Member supporting the Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups.
