Diaconal ministry includes:
- a ministry of service - in the world and the church
- living out the servanthood of Christ in the world, especially with forgotten and rejected people
- interpreting to the church "the needs, concerns and hopes of the world"
- mobilizing the people of God into service
- assisting in public worship
Diaconal ministry is a critical leadership role in the church, whether or not the leaders are known or ordained as deacons.
Ordination to the Diaconate:
- Within the Anglican Church of Canada, each diocese sets its own guidelines for discerning a call and preparing for ordination to the diaconate. See the Diocese of Huron and the Diocese of Niagara.
- Completion of Renison Institute of Ministry courses is recognized as part of the preparation for ordination to the diaconate in the Anglican Church of Canada.
- We also offer the Exploring Ministry Discernment Workshop Series which is required for individuals discerning a call to the diaconate in the Diocese of Huron and is helpful for everyone discerning a call to ministry of whatever kind, lay or ordained.
